My name is Alyssa, and I am the woman behind Sugar Mama KC. For more info on how our small business got started, click here.
I am a cookie artist with the urge to make every special moment and occasion a little “extra”. I may do all of the planning, designing, and decorating for Sugar Mama KC, but I also have some background help that keeps everything running smoothly. My husband, Gustavo (Gus, for short), helps with a lot of the mixing, rolling and baking. He has our cookie recipes down to an actual science, and he isn’t shy about his skills.
We first started dating in 2015, in Manhattan, KS where we both worked and went to school. We moved to Kansas City, MO in 2018 and I started trying out the cool decorated cookies I was seeing people on TV decorating shows making. By 2019 (while working a full-time graphic design job) I started Sugar Mama KC, and we’ve been leveling up and growing ever since. In 2023, we got married and moved to Overland Park, KS. And finally, in 2024, I took the plunge to leave my corporate design job to fulfill my dreams of working solely as a cookie artist. And the rest is history!
Moving to the KC-Metro has been everything we hoped it would be, and more! We have been able to explore amazing places, meet amazing people, and grow both personally & professionally. We even expanded our family with two very sweet and energetic Aussie Shepherds named Buddy and Finn. All four of us together make up one very busy, happy, and loving family.
